I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant and I work as a cashier. I stand for long periods at a time and lift heavy objects such as water. Over the past couple of day, Ive been extremely tired. My feet have been hurting and just yesterday ive had this unbearable back pain. I didn't want to take my leave for another two weeks, but looks like I have to! My question is what do you think I should do and what are my rights when it comes to disability? Thanks

  1. you could do a couple things...

    1. they have to make accomodations for you if you wanna keep working...  give you a chair to sit on while you work... and someone else to lift the heavy things... you should not be standing the entire time it is dangerous for the baby

    2. you could go to your OB and ask them when they'll give you the OK to leave work...  most OB's will give you the OK around 35 weeks

    3. you ask your supervisor about taking FMLA (family medical leave act) for the birth of your baby...  they give you forms to take to your doctor and your doctor fills them out to release you from you job and then you have a job to go back to in 12 weeks  they can not give your job away to someone else

    4. it is most likely gonna be an unpaid leave, unless your work provided a short-term disability insurance that u had signed up for when you signed up for benefits

  2. You aren't disabled. You are having a child, and that can effect your back.Lifting those heavy boxes is not wise.Go to your obgyn and explain the situation.Have them write a letter to your boss explaining the concern for your well-being as well as your unborn childs. If you don't want to quit working, just have your obgyn write a statment stating you cannot lift heavy objects.Maybe they will let you use a stool or chair while you work the cash register?

  3. If it's possible for you to stop working by all means do it!!  If for financial reasons you are unable to do so, I suggest you speak to your supervisor in a professional manner and tell them.  I am 34 weeks pregnant, I can't lift heavy objects, I need some assisitance in doing so.  IF there decent, they'll help you out, if not..report them.  Good luck in your new adventure!

  4. yes stop working and dont lift any thing heavy
