My 8 week old son has been sleeping very well since he was 4 weeks old. He would sleep from 10pm sometimes 9:30pm to 4-5:30am then i would feed him and then up at 8am...Now recently in the last 2 days he has been waking up at 2am and then at 5:30am... I would feed him at 11:00pm. I know that it is completely normal but it is really weird all of a sudden he seems to be so hungry?? Is he having a growth spurt or is his formula just not cutting it for him anymore?? He is on Prosobee soy formula and is doing well on it...first he was constipated for like 3 weeks and now he goings good now not hard p**p anymore. Should I change the formula to satisfy his to something a little more thicker or can i put a little of rice cereal in the bottle? PLEASE HELP!

  1. no you shouldnt give him anything except formula

and yes 8 weeks is a normal time for a growth spurt

I will also point out that it is normal for a baby to wake to eat every 1-3 hours

sleeping more than 4 is abnormal in a newborn (and they should be woke up to feed if it has been 4 hours or longer

  2. First of all congratulations! But he is only 8wks old, it sounds like a growth spurt, I wouldn't add ceral without talking to his pediatrician especially with him having had constipation before...it might really be hard for him to digest...it sounds as if he's schedule is off give it a few days and see if he can get back to "normal"

  3. He is no doubt just having a growth spurt.  Do not change formula or put rice cereal in the bottle.  First of all, you shouldn't mess around with the formula when it agrees with your baby.  Second of all, since formula is so constipating, you should definitely not add rice.  Rice also causes constipation.  No baby can digest cereal until he or she is 4 months old.  I know it's hard, but just keep on getting up with him.

  4. Hi There

I know how you feel! I have a 5 month old daughter and she still keeps me on my toes, whenever I think I have her figured out... she changes EVERYTHING around.

Babies are notorious for changing their schedules often. Kailynn still does.

To answer the rice cereal question... there are many many doctors and peadiatricians who would have a heart attack at the aspect of giving a baby under 6 months cereal. My daughter's formula also just wasn't keeping her full anymore.... she started eating rice cereal when she was 6 weeks old. It really worked and helped with the sleeping too. You can put rice cereal in the formula... just to thicken it up a bit... but the trick is finding a teat with a hole in that's big enough to suck the cereal through.

Just remember, he is your baby, go with what works for you.

  5. I'd say growth spurt
