I am careing for my 8 year old cousin, who rushes when she dose everything and I mean everything. I take my time on things and I have to keep telling her slow down no one will take it from you, you have plenty of time, and your going to fast. But when her dad comes around it gets worse, she rushes even more than normal and will cram food in her mouth and not stop eating when she gets back home? I'm afraid she'll choke on her food one day or hurt her shelf, what can I do to stop this rushing?

  1. maybe make it into a contest to see how long she can take to eat her lunch

tell her eating fast can cause her to choke or get a tummy ache

if she is rushed at home she wont stop with you!  tell her parents

  2. sit her down and talk to her ask her if there is anything bothering her

  3. mabey have the tv on or something to distract her , it slows down most kids :D

  4. its naturall to do it, all kids do.

just try having a little chat and rewarding with something like chocolate when she doesnt rush

  5. It sounds like she's afraid of something or someONE.

  6. My son is the same way I tryed playing a game with him, we took turns duing everthing VERY FAST then every thing VERY SLOW then we did every thing at a normal speed we did this all day long with every thing we did that day and then at the end of the day talked about how doing everything fast didn't get it done very well (brushed our teeth washed the dishes cooked noodles) and doing things slow took forever (it took so long setting up the game to play we didn't feel like playing it anymore) and sometimes ruined things (filling the pool outside again cooking) it worked a little to slow him down sometimes kids don't see the effect things have untill it messup something they care about.
