My SS has a problem with discipline. For example if he spills something and I ask him to clean it up he will snap back and say I KNOW. Then if I raise my voice(not yelling) and tell him not to talk to me like that and come over and apologize he has a tamtram crying, pouting, throwing things ect. Both his parents do not believe in spanking/yelling EVER so its not that hes abused. Whenever we correct him or tell him to do something this is the responce we get.?..

  1. he has a problem in discipline period, and that should be dealt with ASAP, as it could lead to major problems later in life if not properly dealt with!

  2. Maybe you DO need to discipline him. A little spanking never hurt. (well maybe not you..)

  3. The parent you are with really needs to get your back on this one. Whether the child likes it or not, you are part of things now. Laying off is only going to allow him to keep treating you like this.

I don't think you need to raise your voice though. Someone needs to sit this kid down and talk to him. Tell him that everyone still loves him, and his parents with both always be there for him even though they are apart. Let him know their split was not his fault, and that you understand he is angry and confused. Make sure to tell him that you care for him and only want to get along. Be firm and consistent. Punishment first. THEN when he calms down, talk to him and tell him you would like an apology. Asking for one when emotions are high probably isn't going to work.

Hang in there. If things don't get better soon, maybe some family counseling would be a good idea.

  4. Obviously spoiled. I don't think spanking and yelling is necessarily the way to go, but they have to do SOMETHING. They aren't doing the kid any favors by letting him have these tantrums. He will be hated in school, for one thing.
