My Sweet sixteen in a couple weeks and it is 80s themed. I wanted to make a cake myself, but i want it to be in the 80s theme. A lot of people have suggested a rubiks cube cake but that seems a bit too hard. Any simpler ideas that would require a little "shaping" and decorating?

  1. How bout Tye-Dye Cup cakes. (Place them to shape a 1 and a 6 on a cookie sheet for each number that has been covered in foil or something decorative.

You can do the same Tye dye decorating on a cake.

By using this recipe and frost them like the cup cakes were done too.

  2. I would use the neon food coloring and make is neon pink...but you can make yours green.  Neon colors were the rage in the 80's.

    Franky says relax.....

  3. Rubik's cube would be pretty easy. Make about two or three pan cakes - cut into equal squares, then frost and layer the cake together, or make each tier a little off like it's twisting. you can melt white chocolate chips and add a little food coloring to make each color on the cube, then pour colored chocolate onto wax paper in a thin layer and let cool completely. then cut them into equal squares and then arrange on the all ready frosted cake. keep them spaced equally to make the lines between each square

otherwise I like the pacman cake idea- very easy to do that one. you can even make some of the little ghosts too. get a round cake pan and just cut them into the shapes of pac man and the ghosts and arrange them nicely on a large platter together then frost them into different colors using food coloring in white frosting, and get a tube of black frosting with the tip kit and pipe on the lines and eyes and stuff.

  4. How about something related to Michael Jackson?  I believe he was popular in the 80s!  Or Superman, another popular character of the 80s.

I found a site that shows other cakes based on the 80s and have listed the link below.

    Good luck with your party!!!

  5. Definitely a Pac-Man cake.  How easy would that be?  You could even cut out a slice to represent his mouth.

  6. Everyone growing up in the 80's would remember My Little Pony....that would be so cute a horse designed cake and as party favors My little Ponies.....
