I'm going to throw a 34th. birthday party and I want to do an 80's theme, but since I was born in 1985, I'm kind of at a loss. I need ideas for music and decorations. And also if there are any specialty drinks (alcoholic) that were really big in the 80's that would be great too.

  1. I have thrown and 80's Prom Party before and it was so much fun! We had lots of bright colors, lots of outrageous dresses (found at the thrift store and various prom boutiques around town)  and everyone wore crazy sunglasses, big earrings, and lots of makeup.  We had a camera set up on a tripod so we could take "prom pics".

Ideas for music:  madonna, pat benetar, the bangles, billy ocean, the go go's, the outfield, tone loc, etc.  There are some fun 80's compilations online that you can order...the links are below.

You can also do an 80's work out party and have everyone wear 80's work out attire, so fun! Like Richard Simmons style.

Also, below the music links, I am putting some links to some websites that might be helpful!  Good luck!  Have fun!

  2. Wine coolers were very popular in the 80s.

  3. Everyone should dress like in the eighties, Big Hair, Big earrings, alot of makeup.  Music would be definitely, Poison, Def Leppard, Billy Squire. The drinks were Alabama Slammers. Good luck and have fun

  4. Try this. . .

  5. Decorations - bright colors, geometric shapes, black lights.  Play iconic 80s movies and TV shows on your TV or use a projector on the wall.  (Mute the sound through so it doesn't compete with your music.)

Invitations- Print pics of you and your friends from the 80s or classic pictures of eighties celebs and write the info on the back.  Or eVites has some 80s themed ones if you do internet invites.

Food - check out Rachel Ray's suggestions for an 80s party

Drinks - daiquries and pina coladas were popular (you could always do a Miami Vice- half strawberry daiquiri and half pina colada).  The drinks that we think are common place now were the ones that were popular in the 80s.  Think Fuzzy Navels, Seabreezes, Long Island Ice Teas, s*x on the Beach, etc.  I think vodka was the poison of choice.

  6. OMG...... you mean someon born in 1985 is now 34?!?!?!  Gosh, I feel old... I need to lie down.....

  7. Music: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cyndy Lauper, Duran Duran, Prince, Run DMC, Bruce Springstein, Flock of Seaguls, George Michael

Have a movie playing in the background:  Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles or Better or Dead

Lots of candy from 80's:  nerds, poprocks, fun dip, ring pops, red fish

and wine coolers were defintely the drink of the 80's

Make neon comored signs with 80's sayings, such as, "For Sure," "Frankie Says Relax!" "Where's The Beef?" and, "You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party."
