I keep getting a company calling me that shows up as 800 service on my caller ID. Does anyone know what this is and how to get them to stop? I am on the do not call registry. When I answer the call, it says please hold for ____? and then I hang up.

  1. Wait on the line for a human to talk to you, and then tell them not to call you again.  Insist on talking to a manager if you have to, and make sure you get the company's real name and contact inffomation.

Since you keep hearing from them even though you're on Do Not Call, that means they either don't care about the registry or they're a non-profit or charitable organization (or calling on behalf of one), in which case the Do Not Call list doesn't apply to them.

Either way, they're not going to know you don't want to be contacted unless you talk to them.  If they're a non-profit (or they represent one) and you tell them not to call you again, they may voluntarily stop calling you in the interest of public relations.  And if it turns out they just don't care about the D.N.C. list, take down their information and rat them out to the FTC.
