Question:

800m splits?

i'm a female freshman in high school.

this past track season, i ran a PR of 2:25 in the 800m race. (normally i average 2:26.00)

in the 400m dash (same meet) i PRed with a 61 (in this event, i usually average about a 62)

i only run the 400 because my team needs a 4th leg on the relay; really, my main event is the 800, and i'm looking to improve.

so my questions are as follow:

1.) is a 2:25 a good time? (consider the info i gave u)

2.) if my 400 time is 61, what should i be expecting my 800 splits to be?

Thanks!

  1. those times are very good, you should be able to go near or under 2:20  IMO with your speed. High 60s for the first quarter and low 70s 2nd quarter.

Be careful, dont go out too fast for the first 200 of your 800 cause your race will be over. go out even,

  2. yes a 2:25 is a very good time

    depending on your section

you may be highly ranked =]

my section is really compeitive in the 800

and the winning time was a 2:16

followed by two other girls in the 2:20 area

    but still!

as a freshman you're right on target =]

i run about the same 400 meter time as you

    60-61 usually

but i don't have a lot of speed.....

you on the other hand most likely have a lot of speed

    but need endurance!

my 800 splits usually turn out to be close to:

a 64-6 on the first lap

then a 71-3 on the second

to round out to a 2:17

    you could try that

or try to even it out and run two laps

at an even pace of 69 or 70

    to get you sub-2:20

long distance runs should help you tremendously

    as well as longer intervals

say: 10x400 at race pace w/ 1-2min rest

    best of luck!

  3. 2:25 is an amazing time!

for the 800 splits you should shoot for a 63.

  4. To run a 2:25 you prolly want to run a 70 second first lap and a 75 second 2nd lap.

To improve your 800 time next year take a second of both laps.
