80gb PS3 problem, is this a 40gb?

I bought an 80gb PS3 today from PC World and have noticed it only has 2 USB ports on the front and no card reader. The box and everything else it comes with relates to an 80gb. I have checked the system settings and it tells me my free pace is 64gb/74gb?

  1. As far as i knew, the 80 gb version was just the same as the 40 gb, but with more memory.

    60 GB FTW.

  2. they no longer sell the 80GB you are talking about as a stand alone console.  the only way you'll find that one now is if you buy the MGS4 80GB bundle.  other than that, the only 80GB available is the one you bought...a 40GB PS3 with twice the space.

  3. It's the new 80 gb PS3.  It replaces the 40 gb PS3.  So in other words, it's just the 40 gb but with an 80 gb hard drive.  It was just recently released.

  4. the ps3 software takes up gigs too (like the dashboard, marketplace, etc). when i bought my xbox 360 elite with 120 gigs it said that i had 105 gigs remianing.

its okay, you have no problem with your ps3.

  5. You bought the new 80gb PS3. It is the same thing as the 40gb except with a 40gb memory upgrade and a dualshock 3 controller. If you want the old 80gb then get the MGS4 bundle, which has 4 usb ports and ps2 bc.

  6. You have the new 80gb correct? If so, then that the one. How much did you pay? If you payed 400$ then u got what u wanted

  7. the one you got is an "80gb CORE" not the 80gb mgs4 bundle..

thats the new released one.. it has all the features of the 40gb, its just comes with twice the memory.. you should have checked the box or asked the guy that gave it to you on the store..And about the space, yeah, its normal for the ps3 to take up some space even though you havent put anything yet...hope i helped..

  8. Theres no problem, its a 80gb ps3. Have you ever bought a memroy card, and it says like 3.xxgb remaining, in a 4gb memory card. Well its because there are some programs added to the memory card, or in your case ps3. There is no problem.

  9. it seems like you have unfortuantely bought a 40GB which i did aswell thinking it was a 60GB but that was my own fault coz it had a 40GB ps3 box, but if it said 80GB on the box then they put in the wrong console, but this depends if your living in europe or america, because europe's 80GB and 40GB are the exact same only they have different hard drive sizes, the american 80GB however is the exact same as the european 60GB with 4 USB ports, a chrome trim, flash card readers, super audio CD support and PS2 backward compatiblity with 75%-80% PS2 games, if u live in europe u might have taught that the americans 80GB was going to be the exact same as us europeans 80GB but its not which is completely unfair, the onli version/model of the ps3 that we got that could play PS2 games(partially, only some of dem around 75%-80%) and had the flash card readers and the chrome trim and 4 USB ports and super audio CD support was the 60GB which is out of production now and can only be obtained online.
