  1. If the grade is X,then 0.8X=90,so the grade must beX= 90/0.8=112.5

and also 0.2X=80 so X=400.The question is NOT self-consistant.

  2. 1) 80% of grade is 90

       90 divided by 80% times 100% =200

    2) 20% is 80.

       20 divided by 80 times 100

    =25

  3. 0.8 * 90 + 0.2 * 80 = 88

    the grade is 88%

  4. .8 times 90

    plus

    .2 times 80

    equals percentage.

  5. .8 * 90 + .2 * 80

those are multiplication signs by the way.

  6. (90 x .80) + (80 x .20) = 88

  7. 80% + 20% = 100%

    90 + 80 = 170

    OR

    what do you mean? 100%?

    10% = 40, in other words half 80

    100% = 400, 10% x 10

    OR

    20% x 5 = 100%

    80 x 5 = 400

  8. Let's look at it this way.

Overall you can get 100 points.

The first part is worth 80 points, the second part is worth 20 points.

On part one, you got 90 percent of the possible 80 points.

    .90 x 80 = 72 points (out of the 80 possible)

On part two, you got 80 percent of the possible 20 points.

    .80 x 20 = 16 points (out of the possible 20 points)

    72 + 16 = 88 points out of the possible 100.

    So you get a B.

    Maybe a B+ if they're being generous.
