You played it in the garden. It would of been late 70's early 80's

Plastic rugby ball shape. Two nylon strings with two handles at each end. One player would pull the strings apart and it the 'ball' would slide down the cables to the other player. They would do the same and it would slide back.

  1. I totally remember those! They're called "Swoosh Balls." You can actually still buy them, and they're pretty cheap nowadays. Here's a link to where you can purchase them:

Also, I grew up in the 80's and I never built buggies out of old bits of wood... o_O

  2. I remember those. I had one.

  3. I remember it well. never had one, but saw them on the TV ads.

  4. Was it a Zoom ball.

We had a hard orange one. And Kevan was right, you'd try to see how close you'd get to the other players hands to smack them on the knuckles. Not sure that's how it was marketed!

My brother and I would play for a bit, he'd lull me into a false sense of security (fun) then he'd distract me and then wizz it so hard at me that it'd smash into my knuckles and I'd end up letting it go! Can see his smug little face now!...

  5. Thank god I was born in the 90s

    Sounds good fun gramps

  6. i think it was called "swoosh" or something like that.

  7. Fantastic fun, I had one in our house, purchased in the early 80's for a caravan Holiday, used to have competitions to see how fast we could get it going and how close to our knuckles before we would chicken out once the ball got up to speed.

Great excersise for the upper arms and chest.

As for the young whipper snapper, I bet you never had the chances to build camps, learning wood craft, be out doing creative practacle things, building a buggy out of old bits of wood and prams or any of the real kids fun things.

  8. i had one but dont remember what they were called
