  1. INVITATIONS

Get some shoulder pads. Send each girl a set of shoulder pads with the invitation written on it,Tell them it's time to don their spandex and leather for an 80's parties, along with their loudest retro clothing and high top sneakers. Put the item in an envelope. Another option is to send them a can of Aqua Net hair spray, with a note attached. On the front of the envelope or the note, write, "You're gonna need this..."

    DECORATIONS

Plaster the walls with posters featuring 1980's bands and stars in their brashest, boldest outfits. Many of today’s stars may be recognized and give your guests a laugh to see them in the former fashion trends of the 80's. Make signs with 80's sayings, such as, "Fer Shuuuur," "Frankie Says Relax!" "Where's The Beef?" and, "You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party." Place them on the walls. Since CD's came out and began to gain popularity in the 80's, decorate the room with them by hanging them from the ceiling or plastering them on the walls, or making a CD mobile by hanging them from hangers with strings. Any objects that were wild fads make great decorations: Cabbage Patch Dolls, stuffed Pac-Man dolls, Rubik’s Cubes, gremlins, and neon colored Koosh balls. Get a dry erase marker, and, on the bathroom mirror, write, "For a good time call Jenny: 867-5309," and, "Get Well Ferris Bueller!" Get an old electronic keyboard-- or even better, a key-tar, if you can come across one– and have them in case the mood to jam strikes your guests.

    ACTIVITIES

Have a Rubik’s Cube contest-- give each guest a Rubik’s Cube, one of the most popular puzzles in the 80's, and have a race to see who can get one side completed first. Have a Valley Girl Speak contest-- give each person a card with a passage from the song, "Valley Girl," written on it, and have them read it out loud. Vote on the best Valley Girl speaker. Watch, "The Breakfast Club," or, "Sixteen Candles." If you have a video game system, have a Pac-Man tournament. See if you can find an old Simon game and have a contest with that as well. Play "Hair Scare." Print out some pictures of popular 80's stars with the more outrageous hair cuts. Carefully cut out the hair and put it on one side of a bulletin board, and the face on the other. See if your guests can match the face to the hair. For more fun, print out some more life-size face pictures, but this time just cut out the face. Let your guests hold the picture up and put their face in the hole to see how they would look in 80's hair.

    REFRESHMENTS

Serve up sushi on clean CD's, Jell-o jigglers in the shapes of Pac-Man and ghosts, and cocktail weenies. Doritos and all kinds of chips/dips were a staple in the 80's party diet. Pepsi was also very popular in the 80's, as the commercials deemed it "the Pepsi generation," as were colorful beverages such as sunrise punches, and juice bags– a new concept in beverage containers. Make a big birthday cake, frost it with pink icing, and put 16 candles on it.

    GOODY BAGS

Give your friends a bag full of Hello, Kitty items, multi-color click pens, rubber bracelets, and some funky shaped sun glasses.
