88 honda civic won't start?

battery is fine, lights go on, alternator was replaced one month ago, but starter won't turn at all. It makes a low groaning sound when I turn the key. Ran fine, no problem for the last month, just got back from a long road trip, then suddenly it won't start. Is it the starter? or a greater electrical problem.

  1. maybe the battery isn't holding a charge anymore.  How new / good is the battery?

Also, alternators are tricky.  They can put a "new" one in and no guarantee how well it will work or how long it will last.  Alternators are often a matter of luck.

  2. Tighten your battery terminal cables. Sounds dumb but if there isn't a good connection, it wont start. Try it before laughing. Ha

  3. sounds like the battery doesnt have enough juice to fully engage the starter!

give a jump and let it run for about 20 minutes to let the battery recharge.

  4. battery. even if a battery is charged, after too many jumpstarts or too long being in your car, it becomes bad and doesn't have enough kick to spark it
