8hp mower is not starting?

i have a ariens 8 horsepower mower the carbulater is not stop up and its getting fire but it still will not start up what would be wrong with it

  1. "fire" not hot enough? did you check the heat on the spark plug?


  2. Could be stale gas in the carb or gas tank. Flush out the fuel system and replace with fresh gas. possibly thr float is stuck in the carb.

  3. If it has spark it has to be a fuel issue, assuming the rest of the engine is good.  How do you know the carb isn't stopped up?  Have you removed it, taken it apart and cleaned it properly?  Carbs are the number one issue with small engines.  Put a teaspoon of gas in the spark plug hole, replace the plug and try to start it.  If it trys to run you will know that it is a fuel problem.  

  4. make sure your using the right spark plug and it has been pre gaged for that engine!...fuel line could be clogged and if it use,s any type of fuse check to see if one is blown!
