8th Grader Volunteering at a School?

I am going to be in honors this year and I just found out that I have to spend a certain number of hours doing community service. I am in the eight grade. I am thinking about volunteering at my old elementary school because my mom is going to work and that is the only place I could volunteer that is within walking distance. I want to know has anyone else ever volunteer at a school? If so, do you go after school? Does helping your old teacher count as hours? This is all new to me. I am not in high school yet, so I can't volunteer at the library. In many places they require you to at least be in high school. I asked my Elementary School and they did say that I could work off my hours there but how? The Elementary school ends at 2:25 and mine ends at 2:30. I can't get there in time to help the teachers. However, the Elementary school closes at 4 and also some teachers stay after school, I think. Do you think I could get hours for working after school? I want to help my old teachers and not the office. Thank you.

yeah that would work you could also see if there is any thing you could do at your school so you wouldn't have to walk. i voluntered after school but where i live all of the teachers have to stay about an hour after so it worked out for me

i think you can volunteer just make sure ta ask the people in charge and see what they have to say
