9/10 Of A Cent Gas Tax In The United States?

OK, I know everyone's hurting because of the gas prices rising all over the US.. But why do we still have the need to tax gasoline that 9/10th of a cent?

Why don't we just round it up to the penny and do away with the 9/10 of a cent tax?

Its not a tax.  Its just an advertising gimic to make it look like gas is 1 cent cheaper.  Just like how everything advertised on TV is 19.95, to make it look like a deal since its under 20 dollars.

This goes back to when gas was less then a dollar per gallon and a one cent appearance in lower price could make a difference to customers.
