9-7 2011 season: Coach Mike Munchak confident Tennessee Titans will do even better this season
Tennessee Titans’ head coach Mike Munchak is confident the team will do even better this season while coming off the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season with the 9-7 record and falling just short of making it to the playoffs.
It was a remarkable comeback from their 6-10 finish in 2010, and according to the team's owner Bud Adams, it was a job well done by Munchak, who was in his first year as a head coach with the Titans then.
Munchak, who is in the second year of his stint with the team, is hopeful of further improvement this season, shrugging off that absence of some key players can affect the team’s performance.
The coach said:
"Last year was tough because even scheduling practice, we were not sure how much time we were going to need scheduling periods. We spent a lot of time last year on real, real basic stuff, because our players and coaches had never even
met.”
He added:
"We feel we're light years ahead of where we were last year on our feel for the team and what we have, where the competition is and how hard we can push them."
It was unlucky for the Titans that they could not reach the playoffs in 2011 despite getting so closer to it. It was down to the luck that an unexpected development on the points table handed the last wildcard opportunity to the Cincinnati
Bengals – an unlikely contender for the second round.
They have a certain chance to make up for the lost opportunity this season. The team appear ready for the challenge except for some recent bad news that struck it on the receivers’ situation.
WR Kenny Britt, who on one hand is fighting injury problems and on the other facing legal challenge due to the recent arrest on driving under the influence (DUI) charge, is a cause of concern for the management.
According to the coach, he has spoken to Britt and told him of the team’s concerns about the latest incident. He added that the team and NFL are gathering information around the incident and at the moment there is no confirm timeline for
his return.
The coach also talked about the starting quarterback competition between veteran Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker. He said both players look ready to challenge each other for the role.
