90 year old Mom needs dental work?

My 90 yr old Mom is not very well. Her dentist recently took out her front tooth and the one next to it. At the same time he did a bone graph? He initially was going to make her a partial but upon seeing the impression his lab told him her bite had collapsed and therefore a partial was out of the question. The extraction and partial was costing 2200.00.Know the dentist wants to make her a three unit bridge at the cost of 3000.00 more. Does anyone know if she has any other options. When we asked if he could lower the price the office said if she paid in full by cash they could give a 5% discount and by credit card 2%. She lives on social security and medicare. She had a pacemaker replacement in May. She has three poorly functioning heart valves. The doctors just started her on cumadin to help her not to have a stroke. Her doctors tell us she will not be able to have dental work in the future as her heart wont allow it. She has always taken care of her teeth. Please help!!

  1. If she is on Cumadin and has pour valves to her heart, IMO they shouldn't be pulling her teeth. With Cumadin, she could bleed to death. If she has heart problems she needs to be on some mega antibiotics. Be very careful, with her health and with this dentist. Call other dentists or a dental association. Something does not seem right. I don't understand why she couldn't get a partial...

  2. i suggest a second opinion, and did you ask about dentures?

just becuase you get her a partial, does not mean she will wear it. we got granny a very expensive partial thingy, and she promply threw it out with the trash, making the point that she wassnt gonna be told what to do.

  3. Contact the state dental association and put this question to them. There MAY be some program, that they know of, that  she can qualify for!

Best of luck to you and your mother!

  4. Go see another dentist and get their opinion. Good Luck!!!

    Have a great day!!!

  5. 15 years old or 90,dental work IS expensive. She is/was very lucky to have real teeth up to the age she is....the only thing i can suggest is pulling and dentures.

  6. I would ask another dentist for their opinion,  I wouldn't recomend spending alot of money on those kind of services if her health is not in tact.  Maybe a different denal lab could build her a temporary flipper (partial) that will get her by for now.

Good luck I know this is a hard decision for a person to make about your family.
