Look mate, it's just perfectly normal to carry $9k in a bag, in case one needs to go shopping with the Mrs or something ... or someone else's Mrs, even.

The essentials to a beautiful, loving weekend don't come cheap you know.  Well not unless 'cheap' is your thing.  But these guys are AFL football players, so they don't 'do' cheap and tacky.

So I'm going with, he was just gonna pop down to the nearby shopping strip with a girl he was busy impressing and buy her 'a little something special'.
