That will only work if the problem lies in the valve train. If the rings are shot, a new head will do nothing. You'll have to re ring it.

THE HEAD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH UR PROBLEM. GET NEW PISTON RINGS. ALL THAT c**p WILL GO AWAY. I PROMISE.

There are simple tests to determine exactly where the problem is. Consult with a reptable shop, and if they don't recommend or do a compression and leak down test go somewhere else.
