Question:

91 Integra gearbox issues

Hi, I have a 1991 Honda Integra LS automatic car. The gearbox lately has been playing up strangely. Issues I've been having are when changing gears eg. Drive to Reverse, it doesnt kick in straight away to Reverse and I accelerate thinking its reverse, but the car drives forward instead...

Also when this happens the light doesnt illuminate up on the dash to signify that its in Reverse. This also happens when I go to put the car into Park mode. I shift the gear to Park and it takes a second or two to shift into the gear and then the Park light illuminates on my dash.

This is the only problem. There are no problems in the gear changes when I'm driving. Only when I change the gearbox. Problem is only intermittent too.

What could my problem be? Is it the transmission? Do i need to change my tranny fluid? Is my gearbox dying?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Sounds like the linkage is out of adjustment, not the transmission itself. If you have not changed the fluid in awhile it wouldn't be a bad idea to do that when you take it into the shop.

  2. Have a mechanic check the linkage and the transmission fluid level.
