92 Honda Accord--- Just Shuts off for no Reason! Whenever it feels like it! ?

The title may sound weird, but its true. Mechanics are stumped and they say that plugging the car to their machine to see what the problem is doesnt work unless the car fails in their care, which (of course) never happens. So, I can be going 80 miles an hour on the freeway or 10 up the street; it doesnt matter. There are no common denomenators as to the symptoms. There is also no noise when it shuts off and when it does shut off, I put it in park, turn the car off, then turn it on again, and it'll be fine as if nothing happened. Help!

  1. I had the same problem with my 97 Accord, was told of a recall and checked online and found there was a problem with the ignition switch,

went to the dealership and got switch and replaced myself, since then it hasnt happened, I'd start there but those mechanics should know about it, If there is a recall and it hasnt been fixed they should fix it for free, or if you want you can do it yourself.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Had same problem on my 1990 Accord.mechanic and dealer were stumped.Good luck.

  3. you could have a loose wire that shakes loose when you hit a bump or something stupid like that. check your wires and battery cables.

  4. I had a problem like this with my 95 eclipse. The first thing I would do is replace the battery ground cables because if they are bad, it'll randomly be like someone just pulled the plug on it and it shuts off. They are cheap and easy to install. If the problem persists and the mechanics aren't reading any codes from the computer, it very well could be the computer itself.

  5. I'm guessing its electrical.. And if the check engine light don't have the chance to come up its not going to be picked up on the OBD.

It dies just as if you were to turn the key off correct?
