Question:

93 GSXR 750 Trouble going into first or second from neutral.?

If I'm in neutral, sitting still, pull in the clutch fully to shift into first gear, when I press down on the gear shift it grinds. When I push on into first, sometimes it clunks and the engine dies like the clutch isn't disengaging. The bike creeps forward if I start it up in first with the clutch fully pulled in as well. If I adjust the clutch cable out any more the bike tachs out when I give it a lot of throttle and goes nowhere. I've changed the oil (also clutch fluid). Other than coming from neutral, the bike shift fine to all other gears. Please explain why it does this, and how I can fix this shifting problem. Thank you.

  1. The clutch plates need replaced.

  2. I agree, the clutch plates are probably shot but most bikes have another clutch adjustment that needs to be made on the side of the engine-transmission.  Find out from someone more familiar with your bike how to do it.
