Was running fine until the other night when the battery died while i was riding. After I got the bike back home I checked all my grounds and inspected for loose wires but couldn't find a problem. Next I checked to voltage coming out of the regulator with the battery hooked up and got 14 volts. With the bike running i disconnected the battery and got only 4 volts. Another thing I noticed is that the tach goes to 0 and backlight dims when battery is disconnected. Bike will idle ok with no batt but chokes up when i try to rev and dies the instant i hook up the headlight. The voltage regulator is about 3 months old and shows no signs of being melted. Anybody have a problem like this before or have any ideas as to what the problem might be other than the voltage regulator?

  1. probably just time for a battery.

  2. If your wiring is fine, regulator is fine, than it has to be your battery itself.  Yes ! modern batteries work fine till the very last and then ..... just go kaput.

Put in a new battery if your earlier one is about 2 years old.  The matter will resolve itself.  Check your fuses too.
