95 caddy with bad transmission

Question

I recently bought a 95 cadillac deville and the guy told me it had a bad tranny. He told me the car would start up (which it does perfectly except today the battery was dead so we had to charge it). but would not go into dear and move.

So we had the car towed home today got a new battery in it and started it up. The gear shifter had fallen off but we are able to put it in gear and low and behold it drove. It went in reverse and drive perfectly and we even took it around the block no problem.

There is a little noise coming from under the hood though but transmission fluid is good and so is everything else.

My question is once a tranny is broke, isn't it broke for good? We put some transmission fluid in, not much though, but the fluid was a good color when we checked. I was thinking maybe when it was towed maybe the tow truck might how jumbled something that made the car work but once a transmission decides to quit does that happen?

you may have got a real good deal on this car,maybe the guy actually thought the transmission was out on it when the linkage was just the problem, a bad transmission wont repair its self,so there may not have been nothing wrong with it but the linkage off on it,cross your fingers and hope that it stays working,good luck.

I agree, you might have gotten a good deal because it wont fix itself. Just make sure the fluid is fine like you did and drive it.

usually yes, it sound to me like u should check your shifting linkage and make shure its all good, if you drive it before hand you might have an accident our ruin the trany if it changes from forward to reverse when its not suposed to, only time will tell, good luck

it don, t sound like the transmission is out, just the linkage needs changing. once you get the linkage straightened out, you might want to change the fluid and filter.

I seen a dodge 904 and a 413 transmission run steal to steal no clutches. the same with GM 200M, 325.
