96 cbr 900rr shuts off wen i put it in gear wats wrong wit it?

every time i put my cbr into 1st gear it shuts off wat can be wrong with it???

Kickstand switch, and I agree with maddog.

Put the bike on a race stand to get the rear wheel off the ground.

Put it in gear, try to start it and check for spark.

If no spark - something in the side stand switch circuit is not operating properly.

Back track the circuit - perhaps you bypassed the switch improperly.

It should spark with the trani in gear and the clutch lever pulled in.

If no spark with the clutch lever pulled in -

Could be the neutral safety switch (clutch swith at the clutch lever), or the clutch diode.

kick stand switch probably needs to be adjusted or reconnected. Sometimes a rock or something can hit it while riding and cause this.

Sounds like your kick stand safety switch is bad.  It will not allow the engine to run while the kickstand is down unless the bike is in neutral.  This is a pretty common thing to wear out over time.  

Or you could be putting the bike in gear with the kickstand down causing the bike to kill the engine which is what the safety switch is designed to do.

You can bypass the safety switch if you like but the best fix would be to install a new one, they can be purchased for about $40.00 and the reason bikes have them is so that you do not go riding around with the kickstand down, lean into a corner and drag the stand causing you to dump the bike.  I have never had one go bad but if I did I would replace it, how else would I turn off my bike:)

sounds like the kickstand switch is faulty, eithe make sure it is full depressed or cut it and tie the wires together so it thinks the switch is engaged or do it right and replace the switch.

Sounds like your stand is not fully up or the Switch for the stand is faulty. Start there.
