My 96 chevy lumina a/c is acting up, real low pressure when turned on. Had freon checked and its a full. Someone suggested it may be the a/c filter (drier). I have torn the dash apart following the lines and can not locate a filter. Any help would be appricated.

Heater pressure is normal.

  1. a/c filter? you mean the accumulator. its in the engine bay. follow the lines off the pump. the low side goes right to it. cylindrical unit.

  2. I'm not sure i understand the question.  If you're saying that you have poor air flow from your vents with the ac on, but it is normal with the heater on, then you obviously will have a problem with the temperature control door in the HVAC system case, which is located approx. behind the glove box.  It could be a malfunctioning door, or the valve that operates the door between heat and cold.  A good technician could probably figure this out for you in about 15 minutes.

If you are saying the refrigerant system suction side has low pressure, then the problem is never going to be the drier (accumlator).  Most likely the problem is low refrigerant or a faulty compressor valve.

    good luck

  3. sounds like the condensor fan isnt coming on, also how did you check the freon to see if it was full and why is freon in that car when it takes refrigerant, not freon

  4. Some times in older vehicles the evaporator will get clogged with dirt an grime. These are normally located behind the dash and  the fire  wall.I have used a cleaner to clean out my Beretta evaporator and it made a huge difference on the air flow .
