i was driving to work one day and i was cruising about 70mph. the rpms were around 1800, out of now where it seemed like it down shifter and the rpms jumped to 3000 out of no where. i would slow down some and it seemed like that kinda helped. well..... a couple days later it did it again while driving to work but on the way home is seemed like it was just ready to die. i was lucky enough to make it home but it just doesn't have any power anymore. the fluids are ok and the filter and fluid has been changed on schedule. i think it might be the torque converter but i am an amature to this but i am eager to learn anything i can. any help would be appreciated

  1. sure its not a fuel filter or the exhaust system...

  2. That trans is electrically controlled by the computer. The symptom you first describe is typical of a trans range sensor or vehicle speed sensor fault. It may be the sensor or wire harness.  Based on your vague description, it is hard to say if the trans is not shifting now or if it is stuck  in default mode. Have it checked for any fault codes.

  3. it is probably not you torque conv. because if that went you wouldnt have been moving at all after that, it would not have come out of it.
