97 Kawasaki STX 1100 jetski electronic problems?

The battery went dead so I disconnected it and put a new battery in. Before it went dead, my electronic dash worked fine...now, that I put a new battery in, it won't work at all- it won't display anything. I did not cross the wires or do anything wrong to it. When I turn the key on, the red warning light flashes one time, but nothing else happens- everything stays blank. However, I could not find my key one time so I used a magnit to turn the key slot on. Would this have anything to do with my problem or does someone know what my problem with the dash could be?

  1. Using the magnet didn't hurt it. Check for loose wires and poor grounds.

More than likely, the 11 year old meter assembly just decided to p**p out. No problem, for a mere $798.00 you can get a brand new one here;http://216.37.204.206/Mcmart/Partsfinder...

  2. snafu. That's all JetSkis(or any PWC) are good for. Soaking up money.

  3. this is just a guess, I had one of these, a 96, and my problem was in the black electronic box. It had croded inside and it was no more than replacing a wire. This box is in the back and you have to removesome stuff, Anyway follow the wires until you get to the box then take out what you need and open up the box start jigging wires until you find the problem. You can try jigging them before you remove the box to try and find the problem. There is a connection problem somewhere. spray it good with WD 40 before you close it back up. hope this helps
