  1. i would go with lexus

  2. Hey there,

for $15 -18k, you can actually buy a new GS 300 or E320.  I worked a multiple car dealerships, Penske Mercedes in West Covina, CA was one of them.

Many E-class had issues with electronics and your cost for repairs will be very steep.  Compared to an import, euro vehicles will cost much more.

the 98-05 model GS was the most highly rated reliable vehicle and provides:

    1. High Performance vehicle

    2. Better mileage

    3. Reliable

    4. Continue to drive it until it has over 200,000 miles.

if you are not sure, go to a mercedes dealership and ask a benz tech what type of car he drives and he'll say Lexus.

  3. Out of all Lexus' ever made, the previous generation was by far my favorite.  But, I am sure you can find one for around $10,000. For $18,000, you can get a 2005 BMW 3-Series which has an even better resale value than either of them.

In terms of reliability, expect expensive repairs on either of them. What can I say, you are dealing with 11 Year Old Luxury Cars. But, with the Lexus, you can service it at your local Toyota Dealer for less expensive parts.

With the Benz, I would try to look for a diesel model because it will last longer, be better on gas, and maintain a higher resale value. The only problems are that it may smell kind of bad and it is somewhat loud. You will hear like a slight purring noise from the engine.

    Verdict:

Go for the Lexus, but if you find a Diesel Benz, get that.
