97 mitsu eclipse overheating?

Question

ok, so i put water in the car but i notice a little while later that the water pump (bottle) whatever it's called was leaking. it seems it's broken ?

can this be the cause of my baby overheating :( ?

by the way i am planning on changing the thermostat.

if your coolant overflow reservoir is leaking, you are losing anti-freeze/water. without adequate coolant, your car will overheat. you need to drain all your coolant, replace the reservoir and fill it with 50% anti-freeze and 50% water. if it still overheats, replace the thermostat.

Might be blown head gasket. but it really sounds like transmission problem.
