Question:

98 Olds Intrigue - replacing passenger side power mirror?

On our '98 Intrigue, I clipped the passenger side mirror. It didn't hurt the outside shell or the mirror, but rather the mechanism between the mirror and the shell that controls the mirror movement.

At the wrecking yard, I found the mechanism. On the car, I replaced the front face of it [which was the only part that broke]. Now all I do is need to reinstall the mirror.

I see that the mirror has a ball and socket joint to hold the mirror. According to the Chilton's book, it should be possible to install the mirror.

How much force is required to get the ball [mirror side] and socket [mechanism] to fit together? It seems like a pretty tight fit. I ask because with the mirror being glass, I don't want to put excessive force on it...causing the glass to break, etc.

Thanks!
