I have a 98 FWD audi a4 avante and notice that the passenger side rear wheel is slightly bent outward, it drive nice but is a little sloppy on choppy road. What are my repair options, cost estimates, likely conditions, and can I do it myself. I have plenty of tools and a place to park it indoors for a few day if need be.

  1. Theres really no rear axle. The hub is just mounted to the suspension. If it were me, I would look for something thats bent or worn. As far as doing things yourself, the rear end on these cars are really simple, should be a breeze if you can find whats busted.

Also, might be a bent wheel.

  2. If the wheel wobbles:

    - change out the wheel with your spare tire. If the wheel was bent, this should fix the problem.

    - you may have an unseated or warped rear brake disc (if so equipped); re-seating or replacing the brake disc should fix the wobble.

    - if changing out the wheel does not remove the wobble, you have a warped or damaged mounting hub (the surface you s***w the lugs into when you mount the wheel. replace the hub.

If the wheel is leaning and that lean angle remains the same while you drive the car ...

    - you need to have the rear aligned

    - your rear suspension is damaged and needs to be replaced (part or all...)
