98 chev. malibu have to jiggle my key left to right to get the ignition switch to turn over to start?

Im wondering should I replace with new key because the key is smooth on each side and key has lost its shape or put a new lock cylinder in i can start my car still i just have to move it left to right at a medium to high pace to get the ignition to click over to start...Im a single confused woman dont wanna get ripped off

  2. Go to a locksmith, he can make you a new key at a fairly reasonable price and it's a lot easier than replacing the lock!

  3. you can try a new key, but it sounds like you really need a new switch.

  4. Well, if you don't have a good reference key, I think you are going to have to replace the ignition key and the tumbler. You can get one from a junk yard though, and they are really easy to put in. A service guy might do it very cheaply, especially if you're cute. The trunk and glove box will have a different key than the ignition though, unless you change all 3 locks. Probably not worth it.

  5. the graphite tumblers are worn out, need new ignition switch.
