98 lumina rear suspention question?

I have a 98 lumina 3.8 w disc rears. I changed out the struts but the problem is still there. when I hit a bump it makes a loud thump nois on the suspentions way down. what could this be?

  1. check the towersmount for the strut

    sway bar mounts

    ride height specs,

    axle bearings

    try not hitting the same bump

    gas tank mount


  2. your springs could be tired if the back of the car is sitting low than that means that you need new springs. if your car is making noise when you go over bumps than it probably the suspension bottoming out and hitting the rubber bumpers that are under the cars body.

  3. Lumina Van or Lumina Car? Check the sub-frame bolts and check them again. Use something other than your eyes, like tools and muscles. Then go over all the Lower Control arm bolts. If it's a Lumina car, thank GM for the wonderful fiberglass leaf spring. What were they thinking? Must of been the X Chrysler guy the hired???
