99 Cadillac with the North Star V8, Worth Changing the Motor? ?

My wife's Cadillac motor got hot and blew a head gasket. I'm from the old school where you change a motor to save a good car. I hear this is a poorly made motor and to change it wouldn't be a good ideal. If I do change it out how hard is it going to be???

why not just get the head resurfaced and replace the gasket

or did it warp the seating surface on the block

the only issue ive ever had with caddys and the northstar v8 is space limitations when pulling the engine
