I was driving and when I stopped I heard a squealing type noise was thinking a belt slipping but within 30 min or so I had no AC. I was thinking the compressor and then someone mentioned a clutch. So now I would love to know what anyone else thinks. Thank you so much for any feedback! ** Also, air does blow out of the vents just not cold.

  1. Ok, it does sound like the compressor or clutch locked up, like you were told by someone else, it is best they be replaced as a unit.  The Clutch assembly is where your belt rides and is electrically engaged.  You haven't said if the noise stops when you turn the AC off or not. If so, I would leave it off because the belt that drives this also drives your water pump, power steering pump,  and alternator so if it snaps you lose all those items also. Which is not a good thing.  And, yes this is why you don't have cool air coming out of the vents.

  2. the compressor does have a clutch on it and if it locks up or stops working you will have no air conditioner this is something that a shop will have to repair though if its gone bad,if the compressor went out it will have to be replaced, its possible though that it might have blown a fuse just for the air conditioner, check that also, but a shop will have to repair the compressor part of it,good luck.

  3. the compressor has a clutch...sounds like its shot...i like to replace whole compressor rather then mess around with thea clutch/repair/replacement...  500 to 700 dollars...the reason for hot air is fan still runs

  4. If the belt is slipping on the a/c pully, chances are the compressor is locked up.
