Ok so i have a 99 Honda 400ex and the suspension isn't doing that great, i know the front swing arm bearings are shot and i am getting new ones, is there anything else that might help? Also what would be a good 100-200 dollar muffler i could put on it? Because ive been looking and I'd rather stick with stock rather than spending 350 on an fmf or whatnot.... Maybe a used fmf would be cheaper? Or white brothers?

  1. I have a 2000 400ex and know it inside and out practically.  Not much information with the suspension "not doing that great", but I'll try to help.  I'm assuming your talking about the shocks are bottoming out during either riding rough terrain or jumping so; you can actually raise or lower the front and rear shocks by turning the adjustments on the shocks themselves.  If you don't want to bottom out all the time, crank the shocks up (raised height) and down for lower ride height.  I'm here to tell you that there aren't any good $100 mufflers unless you luck out on ebay.  Four wheeler magazine actually did a test on which muffler performed the best about 3 or 4 years ago and they found that the White Brothers exhaust out performed all 10-12 other mufflers.  I got lucky and bought a Supertrapp shorty muffler from Rocky Ridge Racing out of Kentucky for $200.  Supertrapp doesn't build these - they are only made to order.  A lot of GNCC racers run these; they're loud as h**l but makes an excellent power booster.  Kenny probably has one or can get you one for nearly the same price - 270-259-9604.  He owns a very good 4-wheeler business and has always specialized in 400ex's.  Hope this rambling helps!
