Okay so I have an automatic 99 VW Jetta and a while back when I went to leave my house it wouldn't shift out of park no matter how hard I pressed on the break. Then one day it just started working again. A few days ago I was leaving the doctors office and it did the same thing, I sat there for about 10 mins and then it worked all of a sudden. Today I went to take my car out again and it is doing it again! This is so frustrating and I want to know if anyone knows why this is happening?!

  1. its possible your have a defected stop light switch or a shift interlock solenoid

  2. Park safety switch is going bad.  It is a device that enables your car to be started in park or neutral only.  It is a safety device, my advice is to bring the car to VW dealer or qualified import mechanic and have them replace it . It should solve the problem.

  3. Check your transmission fluid and look in your manual for troubleshooting advice.

  4. ok i ts most likely your transmission and i would fix it if it happens again cuz it could happen wile u are driving and that would suck i would also check your brake fluid if u have any ? just ask i hope i helpedd
