I am looking for a 9mm gun, doesn't have to be a 9mm, but I would like it to be. I have been looking at the 9mm Ruger SR9, I like the size and the feel of the gun, but I have heard of some recalls on it? Im sure they have them fixed by now. But any idea's on what kind of gun I could get? I want it to be about the size of the Ruger SR9, and around the $400.00 range, any idea's?

  1. Just some more ideas and suggestions.

Taurus 24/7 Pro comes in 9mm.

    Springfield Armory XD in 9mm

    Ruger's other 9mm

Not in the price range but still a nice firearm...

The Rugers and the Taurus will be closest to the price you are looking for. The XDs could be between 50 and 100 bucks more.

Gunbroker.com has some great prices as well for just about any handgun you want.

  2. buy a used glock

  3. I would suggest you spend some time lurking (if you havent already) on these answers forums...use the search engine, and try searching for new handgun, which is better, XD, glock, etc...

You would be amazed how many times this question is asked--you might find some more information and useful tid-bits from other gun owners.

I am loyal to the springfield XD lines, they are more pricey for $400 dollar range.. I am sure you can find something in your price range. The 9mm is very very common and cheap to shoot!

    have fun!

  4. The Ruger SR9 hasn't been on the market very long, and as you alluded to, has already had recalls due to safety problems.  I wouldn't trust my life to an unproven gun.  Also, I don't feel the 9mm is a good caliber choice unless it is for concealed carry purposes or a woman or child might be using it.  I would stick to at least a .40 or higher, with .45acp being the preferred.  The FBI switched from the 9mm in the mid 1980's for a reason (FBI Miami shootout 1986).  If you like polymer guns, have you tried the glocks or springfield xd's?

  5. buy a glock 17 9mm its a law enforcing gun and it cost like 500 so it is a good price for a great gun

  6. If you like the SR9 and it feels good in your hand, there's no reason not to get it. It will make an excellent first gun that will serve you many years.

If it makes you feel better, just go to Ruger's website on the recall. They have the serial number range on the recalled guns so you can assure yourself you have the fixed one. The problem was actually minor and fixed by a new part.

  7. 9MM is a good choice..... Ruger has worked out the bugs in the SR9 so no need to worry.... Springfield Armory XD pistols are nice also.....  The good thing about 9MM is the ammunition is dirt cheap... You can get a lot of practice time in without cleaning your wallet out...

    Springfield Armory XD pistols...
