I went to go look at the new Ruger today. I read some stuff online about their being a problem with them. They said when you drop them, the fire, so they recalled them, and fixed them I guess. Anyone else had any experience with these guns? Do you like them? I know they are a good price at $425.00. Thanks for answers in advance.!!

  1. Ruger makes a great semi-auto. I purchased the SR9 myself back in March of this year. Yes a recall came down from the company that the pistol if dropped and the safety not on might fire. The pistols effected were made from OCT 07 to APR 08. I just got mine back from Ruger this week. They replaced the problem parts and sent me a new magazine for the inconvenience. Any SR9 you see in a gun shop will either be made after April or returned from Ruger and fixed.

I love mine. It is slim enough to be a comfortable carry gun even though it is a full size firearm. It is very smooth shooting and not once have I had an issue with feeding or jamming. Very easy to clean and maintain and the price is great. I paid 441 after taxes and fees.

I trust you will enjoy it as well.

  2. Properly handled, the Ruger is a perfectly adequate handgun.  I suggest some formal training in firearms handling before you purchase one - and I'd suggest shopping around; you should be able to pick one up forty bucks cheaper...

  3. People who like the Ruger line really like them. All the 85 platform pistols seem to be OK for service weapons.

I appreciate the design and features of the Ruger line... simple and strong. I find them a bit heavy and the triggers-grips are a reach for me..plus they are ugly like a mud fence.

But IF YOU dig them thats your deal. For the price they are a good value..Ruger has decent factory service.

  4. Ah, Ruger and new model of firearms.  Ruger has had the buyer be the guinea pig for a number of new firearms.  Looks like the SR9 is no different.  Let the public find out where they messed up.  So every time Ruger brings out a new firearm give it a year so somebody else can find out what is wrong.

That being said, I like the look and feel of the new wonder nine.  Had thought about breaking my one year rule and buying one, sure glad I didn't.  Do they have the bugs worked out yet?  Possibly.

  5. Ruger makes a good pistol.  There was a recall on some SR-9s.  They might fire if dropped when the safety is off.  And what is so strange about that?  That 'could' happen with any pistol accidentally dropped with the safety off.  It has even happened with the 1911 (even with its dubious grip-safety).  Anyway, Ruger will make it right if you contact them.  There's no recall on the latest model SR-9s.

  6. They did do a recall on them and fixed that problem for those who sent them back. I've had a Ruger P85, the first one made for about 10 years, and it has never let me down. I particularly like the larger size grip. For the price, That pistol would be a great starter gun.
