  1. It would vary with any given shot. The skull has many rounded facets. The ogive of a bullet, even a hollowpoint, has facets.

I think any prediction is more a probablility thing than percent type thing. I knew a policeman that killed himself with his 45 under the chin. Did not go through but the results were still the same. Too many variables to say either way. Likely? Yes, maybe, probably. Sure thing? No.

Temporal to temporal, probably a greater chance depending on how may facial bones were impacted and the path of the bullet.

  2. No doubt it has the power, but why are you ever thinking about this? Do we need to call the suicide prevention hotline?

  3. yes

  4. i honestly cant say yes or no, because one ultimately cant predict what will happen. It seems likely and the skull bone someone mentioned is a possible factor to deter the projectile from completely penetrating the skull. another factor is you stated a 45 acp, a bigger round has more power in essence because its a bigger mass (simple physics), thus has more force (takedown power) but travels a lot slower than lets say a 9mm (another popular caliber for guns in the same field as the 45) which is a smaller projectile and faster velocity. a 9mm fully penetrates a body more often than a 45. this is for body shots (torso most likely) and cant relate to a head. but im mentioning it for food for thought. lastly, the type of round can also depend on the penetration. using a hollow point over a solid projectile would cause an insertion of an air bubble infront of the projectile into the body, causing more resistance acting against the projectile and a bloodier mess. this is mainly why hollow points are recommended for self defence, more takedown force. hope this helps shine a light to your question.

  5. 99.9% of the time yes.

    FROM EXPERIENCE.

  6. Generaly speaking yes, but I can think of one notable exeption. keep in mind that the front portion of your skull is one of the hardest bones on the human body, it's designed to take hard impacts and a bullet fired at an angle has a chance of bouncing off. One of my firearms instructers once told me this story. A man commiting a robery with a gun was shot directly in the forehead at close range with a .45 acp. The EMT's arrived on scene and found the robber laying on the floor with blood coming out of his forehead, and another wound on the back of his skull with blood coming out. they zipped him up in a body bag and were driving him to the morgue, when suddenly the man sat up and started complaining about his head. it scared the **** out of the EMT's. What happened was the bullet entered through his for head, traveled up and OVER the skull, but underneath the scalp, then exited out the back of the mans head. Bullets can do funny things. the best place to aim on the head is not the armor plated forehead, but the intraocular cavity in the middle of the face. a bullet traviling through that will hit the portion of the brain that controls motor function, making the person instantly collapse.

  7. Paula, you asked the very same question about the .40 S&W.  Ballistically the .40 & the .45 acp are very close, so... Same answer:  It will be very, very messy.  See the movie PULP FICTION to get an idea of what would happen.  And that was just a 9mm in the movie!
