  1. The world has not gone mad.  We are just plagued by rogue leaders, and angry kids who grew up without father figures.  I blame society for not taking a stand against fathers who run out on their kids.

  2. I'm with you. just imagine when he's 21. scary

  3. sure, blame the 5 year old,  ya   ok

i say blame the parents and the grandparents,  who knows what that kid has been taught and put through, he might have been beat which taught him violence, he might have been raped which would cause anger,

5 years old,  come on now, something obviously twisted his mind, and at 5 i doubt he twisted his own mind,

    even TV glorifies violence

maybe, just maybe it was all a scam for insurance

or he played with matches (and how did a five year old get his hands on matches) and it got out of control

no i blame the grand mother,

    sorry that is my opinion

  4. Awful, just awful.  However, I don't blame the kid.  He was 5....he had to have been taught about violence before he could intentionally inflict it.  blame the parents that weren't watching him and teaching him the things he ought to be taught.

  5. Wow..... I doubt he/she knew what they were doing. However, that is still terrible.

  6. The world has been like this for a long time, but now, because this is deemed "newsworthy" due to our voyeuristic society these types of incidents are being brought to the forefront.

  7. There is some kind of mental disease that makes fire take over their life. Maybe he has that? And my friends son who was about 10 yrs old pulled a knife out on her. It is sad!

  8. There have always been exceptions.

I have never heard of a 5 year old setting their grandmother on fire before, so I'd say that the world is in good shape, it just has some trash here and there like that kid.

Edit: I love how having a positive outlook on society automatically earns you thumbs down.

  9. What?  Where?  Link?

    EDIT - that's really sad.

  10. This is a sad isolated incident by a disturbed child. The world

has not gone totally mad, but its pretty close to getting out of hand. Please don't despair.Stand your ground for decency, and law and order. Be hopeful. It does get better!

  11. I think it is a tragedy. This boy was obviously disturbed.I wonder if he was ever seen by a professional .The fact he was so facinated by setting fire is a concern. He had threatened to set the house on fire before and obviously he followed through. The world has not gone mad. Some people, regardless of age , are capable of commiting unspeakable horrors and they have no conscience  to stop them. Now is not the time to assign blame and point fingers. The whole family will have a long and difficult recovery and healing process.
