being lifted ? if it took 5 seconds to lift the create ,using a machine, what was the power rating of the machine?

  1. PE = mgh so here

    PE= 50 kg x 10 m x 9.8 m/s/s =

    4900 Joules

    Power = Work/time = 4900J/5s=

    980 Watts


  2. The change in potential energy is mass times gravity times change in height.

    PE = mgh

    m = 50kg

    g = 9.8 m/s^2

    h = 10 m

    Also note that the unit of enery Joules J = kg m^2 / s^2

    Once you have the energy in Joules, the power needed to lift the crate is Energy divided by Time:

    P = E / t

    E = Your answer from above

    t = 5s

    And the unit of energy Watts is W = J / s
