A.A Lowe grabs an impressive knockout win over fellow countryman Terry Maughan – Boxing News
A.A Lowe, the former British Masters middleweight champion, put forth his hometown crowd an impressive show of pugilism and grabbed the vacant British Masters light middleweight gold after collecting a fourth round knockout win over fellow countryman Terry
Maughan, in a 10-round bout held on April 7, 2012.
The event was promoted by Carl Greaves of Carl Greaves Promotions and the ring for the bouts were stretched at Grove Leisure Centre situated in Newark, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. The above duo headlined the night whereas the non-title light heavyweight
bout between Adam Kettleborough and Jatinder Johal co-headlined the Saturday night show.
Lowe, 32, was entering in his 17th bout and possessed a clear upper hand as far as the experience, win percentage, and knockout proficiency are concerned. Lowe resides a bit earlier in the rankings as compared to Terry and has successfully entered the ring
as the number one contender for the BBBC Midlands Area welterweight and light middleweight titles.
Though both attempts were unsuccessful yet his recent victories and performance shows that he has started to make a comeback on the winning track. Lowe took on Harry Matthews twice and grabbed a draw in the first bout whereas a points decision win in the
second one to claim the British masters middleweight gold.
In addition, Lowe’s resume exhibited just one win by knockout. His Saturday night opponent Terry, on the other hand, was entering in the career’s ninth bout and boasted six wins.
He has never collected a victory by knockout and moreover was entering in first ever 10-round bout. The only advantage Terry possessed was the height one. From the beginning of the bout, Terry’s moves and footwork clearly depicted that he is intimidated
by Lowe.
Lowe was the one who dictated the pace of the bout and literally guided the 26-year-old Terry here and there in the ring. The young lad was mostly seen with his back attached to the ropes since Lowe always moved forward with a forceful attack which made
Terry retreat but this did not help him much.
Lowe kept on pummelling Terry and the whole crowd supported their man. Terry distinctively lacked the defensive aspect and did not do anything whenever Lowe moved forward except bringing his gloves up in front of his face in a way that opened his body completed
to Lowe’s vicious jabs.
In the fourth round, after the passage of two minutes and 40 seconds, it was obvious that Terry will lose the bout. Lowe threw a huge right hand jab that flattened Terry on the ring floor making him numb. The 10-count ended and the bout-referee awarded Lowe
his career’s 10th win.
Terry has collected his career’s third loss also via knockout and Lowe has substantially moved up in the rankings by becoming the British master light middleweight champion.
