My 5.5 month old breastfed daughter had some pears for breakfast (about 6 hours ago)

She just pooped, and it looks exactly the same as the pears that went into her mouth at breakfast ... is that normal??? It doesn't look at all like p**p ... just pears!

  1. Nothing to be paranoid about. My son shat out a whole pea once lol. Didn't break or anything. Try carrots lol. They come out bright orange. Really messy though. And bananas will come out seedy. Blueberries, again, a dark but putrid nasty sour stuff.

And don't listen to the people that say you should hold off and that her system isn't fully developed. They don't know any better. She's fine. If you're a mother of three, just do what you did with your other kids.

  2. Yes, that's normal, their digestive systems are not quite developed at that age.  Try laying off fruit for a few more weeks and trying again.  Surprised you're even feeding solids at this point--did your pediatrician say that was ok?

  3. yeah that just means her digestive system isn't fully developed yet and maybe it isn't ready for fruit.

  4. Oh yeah, totally normal. LOL I acted the same way when I found out that carotts and blueberries look like tie-dye and they make you feel like your on something. Haha.

The next fun part is seeing what foods make her skin change colors, just like carrots and blueberries... So have fun!!

  5. If it were me, I might hold off on the solids until she is older.  Many pediatricians say you "can" start solids are 4-6 months, but they don't "need" solids that early.  Some babies will thrive on breast milk alone until they are 12 months old.  Newer research suggests it is better to start solids between 6-9 months of age instead of the 4-6 months that used to be recommended.

  6. If they weren't digested and just went right through her, I'd hold off on solids for right now.  Her body may not be ready for them yet.  I'd give it a few weeks and try again.
