A + Blood Type? CMV - ???

I recently gave blood and I received a blood donor card that says I have a blood type of A+... what exactly does that mean in terms of giving and receiving blood?

Please help me with the following information:

I can receive blood from x% of the population

I can donate to y% of the population

What does CMV mean?

  1. Country has it right.  In addition, your blood is very valuable to blood banks.  Being CMV negative means you can donate blood for recipients who are immunocompromised by diseases like HIV, or people undergoing cancer chemotherapy, or newborn babies.  These types of patients run risk of serious disease if they are exposed to CMV through donated blood.  But your blood is golden being CMV negative.


  2. Card  means== this is your type blood in your body, so next time you donate all you have to do is show this card and the people will know you have type A+ plus this helps if for some reason you have to go to hospital and can't speak the folks there will see your card and know your type.

    You can donate to A+,AB+

    You can receive,O+ , A+ ,O ,A-

    CMV means your blood has never been exposed to the virus (cytomegalovirus ).
