A Book where it starts off with a Boy and a man with an umbrella standing at the foot of his bed?

Question

The man with the umbrella then takes the kid to a magical world where he can't leave but when he escapes this world and it shatters to pieces. When he returns home he has found years have passed by but he is still there same age. Then he finds the old woman in top of a hill. And that is all I remember any help would be great
