I am 15 and just bought A Brief History of Time, (by stephen hawking), and I was expecting it to be wicke difficult, but I have read the first 3 chapters so far and it is actually quite easy, and I understand it all. Is this book suposed to be wicked hard? Or am I just smart?

  1. I can't really tell because I don't know what you mean by "understand".

Many people can read and remember and have no understanding.

It was not written to be wicked hard.  The other answers are insightful.

Stephen Hawking wrote another book I found far more interesting and added more to my understanding:

  2. The book is aimed to be accessible to the interested general reader.  Hawking was deliberately attempting to write a not-"wicked hard" book, so let him have some of the credit for achieving his objective in your case.

  3. This book is supposed to be a simple introduction to the world of cosmological physics.

  4. i think you are so smart.

  5. it is well written but just wait until you get onto the second half of the book explaining quantum mechanics. You may need to read it several times and also some other books to really understand it.

  6. I'm almost done reading the book myself. I found it quite interesting. Although it is pretty easy to understand in the first couple chapters, it gets a bit more complex towards the middle, but its not anything that hard in my opinion. I had to re-read some chapters a couple times, but it was nothing hard. Don't get me wrong, its not an easy read, but it is meant to be an introduction to basic astrophysics, which can be difficult to understand at first. I think that anyone could read it if they set their minds to it, but if they aren't interested, they might not understand it, and that's the important part. Anyone can read words on a page, but not all can understand it... don't feel bad about re-reading or taking notes, your just reinforcing the concepts even more. Its a great read... Stephan Hawking is my idol. Have fun reading it!
