My car's air conditioner is acting weird... It makes a ridiculously LOUD rattling when the a/c is turned OFF and it goes away when you turn the a/c ON... also the driver's side vents do not get cold and the passenger side vents do.... i JUST got it recharged last summer and it's been like this even after that... the meter on the tester thing i have says there's enough freon stuff in the a/c so it doesnt need another recharge....is my compressor bad?

  1. i just had the same thing with my ac compressor because the bearing what bad you can drive the car still but you have to keep the ac on at all time untill you get a new compressor  and it will need to be recharge

  2. If your compressor was bad, you would not have A/C working at all. However, attached to your compressor is a clutch, and that might be having sporadic lockups. Unfortunately, a lot of time if you have to replace the clutch you end up replacing the compressor also because they work together.

I had the same problem, but mine was after I was involved in an accident. The compressor was slightly bent into the clutch and the fan, causing mine not to work and it was making very weird noises.

Have that looked into. If you keep trying to run it you could be causing yourself a bigger bill than what it's worth. Mine ended up being over $2000, because from continuing to use it, I caused the wiring to melt together once my clutch locked.
